From Arbatax, with its beautiful beach and woods, we sailed on to Olbia in 1 1/2 days. Straight into the town harbour and moored at the quay wall, which only costs a one-off fee of 16 euros, even for several days. It had been a long time since we had last taken out the fenders. Being in the middle of the city took some getting used to. People were constantly walking past the boat and we ended up in a lot of holiday photos and as background for funny selfies.
Lukas disembarked here. He was able to take the bus to the airport. We stayed on to wait out the bad weather once more. When the wind became favourable, we sailed on.
The manoeuvre to cast off was tricky because we now had a boat in front and one behind us. Without a bow thruster, we still had to turn on the spot. Achieving this by using the good old manoeuvre of “steaming into the spring”. The spring line was kept attached to the stern of the outer hull (large lever arm on the trimaran) until we could safely turn out of the gap. We were watched from the small boat in front of us and from the shore. Considering that the boat in front of us had great difficulty mooring, their crew was certainly more worried than us during our manoeuvre 😉 The Danes behind us were still asleep.
It turned out on the way that we travelled nonstop. This meant that after two day trips and one night in between, we reached Alghero on the west side of Sardinia.
We had another long stay in Alghero. It is quite easy to anchor in front of the harbour. The town offers many shopping opportunities within walking distance and the picturesque old town with its many small alleyways is a great place for a stroll.
Mathias went on a business trip to Bucharest. This meant that I was left alone on the boat. That’s not a problem, but there was a bit more wind for a few days and therefore waves at the anchorage. The rocking can be exhausting at times. But the time passed quickly and when Mathias came back, we quite quickly got ready for the crossing to France.
Christmas is just around the corner 😉
